recently read...(now with mini-reviews!)

1. "Surfing On A Rocket"- Lauren Kohne

...i can't remember, i think something happend in a restaurant

2. Mighty Whale- Lauren Kohne

...precursor to Kohne's Stepdown Magazine...do they make chewing gum out of MUNI parts?

3. Incubation A Space For Monsters- Bhanu Kapil

...Bhanu likes to say "interiority" and "liminal" in person more than on the page, Bhanu once fed me sugar from her hand, she said "now john, tilt your head back and open your mouth, good..." and then she sort of threw a fistfull of sugar into my mouth and i liked it

4. Freedom or Death- Nikos Kazantzakis

...if you want to read a 465 page book where everyone dies but nothing actually happens you should read this

5. Communion A True Story- Whitley Strieber

...and you thought the film adaptation staring Christopher Walken was crummy

6. The Singers- Logan Ryan Smith

...if you can get past the totally inapropriate cover this is one of the best poetry books of 2007, or Steve Evans Attention Span 2007 material fa' sho

7. Om Folk Came- Michael Koshkin

...i wanted to hate the cover but for some reason really liked it...kind of like Koshkin himself

8. Orgy in the Beef Closet- Michael Koshkin

...this book really doesn't have all that much to do with vaginas

9. The Fish Are Laughing- Will Nixon

...and i'm not, i want the time spent reading this chapbook back, and how

10. Carne De Voyage- Craig Thompson

...ever since reading Thompson's award winning Blankets while working the Boulder Border's MINFO station (Border's Music Info) in 2005 weeping my eyes out freaking the hell out of the customers i've had a thing for Chunky-rice

11. Transfer #13

...this guy Nick i used to hang out with stole this from the Transfer offices at SF STATE while we were editing #81 together as undergrads, this issue includes a bunch of probably never before seen poems by Jack Gilbert c. 1963

12. Abacus #89- Stacy Doris- Marie Antoinette

...unlike Koshkin's Beef Closet book Doris's Antoinette is mostly about vaginas and sperm
