i kind of heard of X the other way around...i was probably 13 or something...flipping around the tv...came upon some strange documentary called "X" on IFC...i probably thought it was about porn or something at first...and then i recognized ray manzarik...and i was all, if ray like X maybe i should like X...and then i heard the music, and freaked out, because i had zero context for what they were doing, i knew i loved it, but didn't know why...you know? but yeah, i've been playing the hell out of X for the last month or so...can't seem to get enough these days...
oh right, I always forget the Ray Manzarek connection with X...probably for a reason. I kid. Not really.
X was one of those bands that I didn't get into until I was in my 20's. Probably them and the Clash were the two that I listened to in my punk teens and could not understand until I was older.
"Wild Gift" is fucking terrific and obviously "Los Angeles" is a classic. You should listen to it on the way to Los Angeles.
oh and I met Exene Cervenka once in Kansas City the same day I met Professor Grif.
sorry this comment is really long and inane.
hi John.
oh and you owe me an e-mail homie! about thurs. night.
Dudes, we should watch this great X documentary, "The Unheard Music" It's so good. I watched it a while back with Katie Edmonds and after we watched it we instantly watched it again.
ray manzarik is in it.
I like ray manzarik. it's the Lizard King that bugs me. Ride The Snake? Yeah...no thanks.
And Brandon, you met Prof. Grif? Why the fuck have I never heard about this before?
i'm really in...and i speak for brandon when i say he's really in too...
we can do this at his house (brandon's) or at mine...brandon would prefer if we came to his house though, and i'm cool with that...let's do it next week...brandon will put it in his queue on sunday so hopefully we'll be able to watch it wednesday...or whenever you (steve) have a night off...
I'm in. And I'm down to watch it at my place or either of yours. It ain't gotta be all barrio all the time.
But next week is probably bad. Skittle is staying with me until Tuesday, and then Logan's reading Wednesday. And you know that Skittle doesn't like punk rock.
