there's this new thing happening...

in my neighborhood where all the cafes/restaurants with outdoor seating are now selling $2 beers...or in the case of the originator, Bean Bag, $1.90 beers...and good beers...Anchor, Big Daddy, Stella et al.

on any given day of the week, Divisadero, say between Grove all the way up to Page, is teeming with folks drinking beers, eating foods, hanging out in groups, flirting, reading, killing time before a show at The Independent, talking...it's a great thing, it's kind of a new thing, it's a slightly foreign thing (right? it does feel a little "East Coast" (or Austin, TX) or something right?))...i mean, young people packing street corners in the early evening drinking beers on the sidewalk out of plastic cups, next to the bus stop, crowding in on each other but in a friendly "can you believe how cheap the beers are?" kind of way isn't exactly a common sight in foggy SF...and especially during last week's heat wave, it was a beautiful thing, beautiful girls in beautiful summer dresses out in droves, boys in shorts and tank tops enjoying the warm evening, everybody feeling sweaty and sexy, the whole block was in heat...it didn't feel like Summer in SF, not even Indian Summer in SF...felt like what it must feel like all the time in summer'y, balmy NYC, jealous...$2 beers bring out the best in people...

anyway, a group of us: me, James, Dempsey, Steve, Jesse, Brittany have been meeting up at Bean Bag every Thursday after work...we usually sit outside (or stand if no seating) and get stupid until we're too stupid or the kegs run out (usually when there's a show across the street at The Independent)...all of this is leading no where really...i'm just saying, i'm really liking this $2 beer trend happening in the Western Addition/NoPA/Lower Haight...it's a great thing to walk two blocks and be in the midst an after work party, every day...

oh i almost forgot...my buddy Dempsey didn't want to sell his truck, and i guess it was in such bad shape that it wasn't worth trying to fix, so he decided to rig it with homemade explosives and detonate it with a sniper riffle...awesome huh? but now he's worried about The Patriot Act...

and then i went home and watched Creepshow and ate sandwiches and went to bed...

tonight Cat and i will be heading to CCA for the premier of "Geyser! a new play by Kevin Killian & Wayne Smith" at Small Press Traffic...and then possibly The Castle to visit with Matthew and Kelsey...or maybe Sadie's with poets post-play...or maybe neither or both.

currently really really enjoying this song by Panda Bear

You can't find $2.00 beers in NYC.

You can't use a PAYPHONE in NYC for $2.00.

You can't buy a slice of pizza in NYC for $2.00.

Homeless people would probably hand you back your $2.00 in NYC...
