spent a rare night out in the Inner Richmond last night. 540 Club and some other places i don't remember the names of. stopped into Green Apple, a place i used to frequent a lot, and which i haven't been to in years...spotted Rude Girl in the shop, made me feel pimp. Green Apple used to be a veritable treasure box of old mimeo magazines...mostly sold to the shop be aging poets from their personal collections/contributor's copies to make some extra cash. All my copies of Soup and ACTS and Lines etc. were scored at Green Apple (not to mention Temblor of which i just started reading #4). so i was a little disappointed last night when i noticed the used poetry magazine area looking sparse. was just getting ready to leave when i noticed the very fat, very yellow and well worn side-stapled spine of a mimeo mag. naturally i check it out. and what a find! turns out to be an issue of Yanagi from "May 1974"...i consider myself a magazine man, but i've never heard of Yanagi. i cracked (and i mean that literarily, the mag probably hadn't been thumbed through in years, it made noise) the book open and was immediately blown away by the table of contents:

Michael McClure, Sara Schrom, Louis Patler, Bill Berkson, Tom Clark, Lawrence Kearney, Ed Kissan, George Butterick, David Meltzer, Fred Wah, Duncan McNaughton, Lewis MacAdams, Ebbe Borregard, John Tehan, John Weiners, Ron Silva, Dick Gallup, Bill Barrett, Michael Palmer, Ron Padgett and Joanne Kyger w/ a cover by Bill Beckman...holy shit right?

the internet tells me that Yanagi was edited by Louis Patler out of Sausalito, CA...though it also indicates that the mag was associated with New College Of California. and that's as much information i can find about Yanagi. anybody with more details please feel free to school me in the comments.

anyway, just thought i'd post some pics of the mag, Green Apple comes through again. as they always seem to. can't wait to dig in.
